Howard Ashcraft has practiced construction law since 1979 and is a partner at Hanson Bridgett LLP, San Francisco, specializing in collaborative project delivery across North America and abroad. Howard has pioneered Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) in both the United States and Canada, authoring or co-authoring many seminal works on IPD and developing contract structures for early projects. Many of the IPD projects in Canada use or have been influenced by his contracts and writings. Howard is the co-author of Integrating Project Delivery (Wiley, 2017) and the author of the upcoming Contracting for Integrated Project Delivery: Structuring Collaborative Projects for Global Success (Wiley, 2026).
Howard is a member of the National Academy of Construction, a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers, and an Honorary Fellow of the Canadian College of Construction Law. He has taught legal and project structures in Stanford University’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and at the Saïd Business School, Oxford University, where he is an Associate Fellow. Howard is the recipient of several awards, including the 2022 Pioneer Award from the Lean Construction Institute.
